Detroit’s Senate Theater, designed by architect Christian Brandt and owned for several years by University District resident, Ben Cohn, opened 100 years ago at 6424 Michigan Avenue.
It was and is mainly a movie theater; it also presents concerts and events. The Senate is now home to the “Mighty Wurlitzer” theatre pipe organ that was originally installed at the Fisher Theatre.
On February 7, a Classic Cartoon festival runs from 3- 4:30pm, featuring animation from Fleischer Studios. Tickets are $6. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Doors open at 2pm, and the organ concert runs from 2:30 – 3pm. Refreshments and merchandise are available for purchase.
