SAFETY & SECURITY

Safety Tip

Park in your driveway whenever possible to prevent theft and avoid issues with snow plows and street cleaning.

Safety Tip

Survey your cars and property for valuables that are visible and removable. Do not leave any of your personal property out. Always lock your vehicle.

Safety Tip

Keep car key fobs inside your home, away from the front door and inside an RFID box whenever possible.

Safety Tip

Invest in ourdoor home surveillance along the front and driveway of your home. Keep outdoor flood lights on whenever possible.

Safety Tip

Remove your waste containers from the street after collection.

Security Patrol

The University District is patrolled by a marked security guard 24 hours a day, every day. Our patrol services include continuous patrol, escort for residents arriving/leaving home or unloading their car, and response to house alarms. During patrol hours, any University District resident can call the patrol car directly. The security line cannot be texted. Security is in real-time, every day communication with the Chair of the Special Assessment District committee.

Security Patrol

(313) 550-2085

Call 911 first – not Security Patrol – if there is:

  • A crime is in progress (burglary, assault, sexual assault, etc.)
  • A fight is in progress or you hear sounds of distress (gunshots, screaming, breaking glass etc.)
  • A medical emergency (someone is injured or needs an ambulance)
  •  Immediate danger (you or someone else is in immediate harm/danger)
  • A fire (any fire or smoke)
  • An accident (a hit and run with injuries or other car accidents)
  • A hazardous situation (in-progress illegal dumping or suspected hazardous material spills)

Additional Services

University District residents can opt into a mass alert text system led by the Special Assessment District Committee. The one-way texts will be sent ONLY when there is critical, essential, time-sensitive, safety-related information to share.

University District residents can treat their property as needed for mosquito infestation. Residents should prevent all forms of standing water in yards, on lawns, in toys and containers, regularly change pet water bowls and trim tall grass and vegetation. Unless the Health Department declares a community-wide outbreak, Special Assessment District funds will not be used towards mosquito abatement.
