Thinking About Serving Your Neighborhood? Now Is The Time!
Every fall, University District members choose the neighbors who will help guide our community association. This year, five seats on the UDCA Board of Directors are open, and we would love for you to consider one.
The board has fifteen members, all volunteers, and each serves a three-year term. The neighbors elected this fall will begin on January 1, 2027, and serve through the end of 2029. To ensure every member has a real choice on the ballot, our bylaws require at least seven candidates for those five seats. That means there is room for you, even if you have never served before.
You may be wondering what the job involves. Our board is a working board. Directors attend a monthly meeting, our two semi-annual membership meetings each year, and serve on at least one committee. Some help plan the Home Tour, while others work on Beautification, Membership, or another committee. Most directors spend at least 10 hours a month on UDCA work. The only formal requirement is that you be a paid UDCA member and stay current through your term.
What matters most is what you bring. Longtime residents carry the history of this neighborhood, and that knowledge is hard to replace. Retirees often have the time and patience that steady work requires. Young adults bring new ideas and new energy. If you are new to the district, your fresh eyes are just as valuable. A board with many ages, backgrounds, and points of view serves all of us better.
If you are interested, the timing is short, so do not wait too long. Applications are now open and are due on October 23rd 2026. The online application takes about fifteen minutes and can be completed at the link below:
If you would rather fill out an application by hand, paper copies will be at the Elections table at the Residents Meeting. Once you apply, you will hear back from us. We will then ask for a short bio to share with voters in the ballot package and on the UDCA website.
From there, the rest of the neighborhood takes over. Ballots will reach paid members shortly after Halloween, and voting will continue until Thanksgiving. Results will be shared in December.
Not ready to run this year? There are still plenty of ways to be involved. You can join a committee, help deliver ballots on your block, or simply encourage a neighbor who would serve well.
