Home Tour

The people of the University District are proud of our neighborhood, city, children, homes and each other.

Bi-Annual Home Tour

In order to keep the neighborhood a safe, bright, happy, and interesting place to live, the University District Community Association (UDCA), a 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization was organized in the 1980s. The Bi-Annual Home Tour is the UDCA’s biggest fundraising effort and allows residents to highlight the amazing aspects of our community for those who live outside it.

Most of the approximately 1,200 homes were built during the “Golden Age of Housing” (1925-1941), when construction technology was highly developed and building costs were relatively low. The homes in the University District reflect a wide variety of architectural styles; Tudor, Colonial, Mediterranean and French Provincial.

The University District is a community diverse in its people and cultures – abundant with doctors, lawyers, musicians, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, business professionals, small business owners, homemakers and City of Detroit, Wayne County and State of Michigan officials. Some previous famous residents of the neighborhood include David Ruffin, Gilda Radner and Jerome Cavanagh.
