Residents are also encouraged to join any of the association committees listed below. Regularly scheduled committee meetings are listed on the website calendar, but residents can also contact committee chairs directly for more information about how to get involved.

Beautification

Chair: Miranda Suman

The beautification committee provides products and services for beautification and holiday decorations for our community.

Block Captains

Chair: Jason Allen

The block captain committee provides support to existing block clubs and the development of new block clubs in the district. Residents should reach out to this committee for more information on who their block’s captain is.

Bylaws

Chair: Sidney H. Bailey III

The bylaws committee is tasked with developing, managing, maintaining, documenting and distributing the UDCA governing documents (e.g., Board Handbook: Bylaws, board member duties, forms, policies and procedures).

Communication

Chair: Taylor Ficht

The communication committee is in charge of publishing the newsletter, maintaining the website, maintaining Facebook, Twitter, and Nextdoor Pages, and distributes notices for all meetings and special events.

Election

Chair: Jay Taylor

The election committee conducts all election-related activities for the University District Community Association.

Home Tour

Chair: Kathleen Samul and Miranda Suman

Plan and oversee the bi-annual Home Tour.

Garage Sale

Chair: Michelle Wright Bailey and Sidney H. Bailey III

Host a district wide garage and yard sale for UDCA residents.

Membership

Chair: Eric Childress and Septima Childress

The membership committee maintains and increases the membership of the association. They run membership drives and compile and provide data to other committees regarding the membership of the association.

Residential Standards

Chair: Joann Roberts

Monitor neighborhood conditions and resident concerns; work with city officials to ensure neighborhood properties are in compliance with City Ordinances.

Safety

Chair: Mary Jo Smith

The safety and security committee works with the neighborhood patrol organizations (radio patrol and the resident funded private patrol), gathers crime statistics, works with the police department, and promotes safety within the community.

Snow

Chair: Roger Short

The snow committee handles all business with the snow removal contractor engaged for our neighborhood.

Social

Chair: Lisa Jones and Faye Knox

The social committee makes arrangements for all social events and the General Membership Meetings.

Special Assessment District

Chair: Sidney H. Bailey III

The Special Assessment District Committee is an administrative and oversight committee for managing the Special Assessment District services and funds, which includes contractor procurement, payment and oversight. As well as ordinance compliance and regular reporting to residents, the UDCA Board and city officials.

Schools

Chair: Vacant

The youth and schools committee works with youth leaders and local schools on a number of initiatives.
