DESCRIPTION:The UDCA’s Social Committee is hosting an Ice Cream Social for the neighborhood at the Companions of the Cross (formerly Prime Ministries). \nBeat the heat with a sweet treat and come to meet your neighbors! Ice cream will be served from 12:00pm-2:00pm but the event will run until 3:00pm. \nAttendees are encouraged to walk or bike\, as parking is limited. Please enter via the back gate on Oak Dr. \nThe event is free\, but please RSVP below so we can anticipate the number of attendees. \nThe Social Committee needs volunteers to help with serving ice cream\, setting up games and other activities.\nIf you can help – please contact Lisa Jones at (312) 933-0188.

DESCRIPTION:The biennial University District Community Association (UDCA) Historic Home Tour is set for Saturday\, September 12th. \nThe UDCA Historic Home Tour is a favorite neighborhood tradition—a chance to share the beauty\, history\, and personality of our homes with visitors from across Detroit and the metro area. It’s also one of UDCA’s primary fundraisers\, supporting community programs\, events\, neighborhood beautification\, preservation efforts\, and more. \n\n\nJoin us for tours inside six of Detroit’s most well-kept homes with unique decor and touches\, many from the Art Deco era. If you love historic houses or are looking for ideas on how to tastefully preserve and renovate your home\, this is the day for you! \nYou will see period features up close\, carefully preserved or restored by homeowners\, including original hardwood floors\, stained glass windows\, Pewabic and Flint Faience tile\, grand foyers\, original and renovated kitchens and baths\, crystal chandeliers\, decorative original plaster crown moldings\, and impressive fireplaces. \nWalk\, bike\, or drive to tour the neighborhood and see the homes. We invite you to enjoy our friendly and inclusive atmosphere and meet some of the people that make the University District such a vibrant place to live. \nPeople of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend the Home Tour. Inside the homes\, children who can walk must be supervised closely by an adult. For children who don’t walk\, they will need to be carried. Most homes have stairs that cannot be easily navigated with strollers. This almost 100-year old neighborhood has some uneven sidewalks\, and not all of the homes on the tour have handrails on outdoor stairs and landings. Due to the standards of construction in the 1920s and 1930s\, most interior doorways are not wide enough for wheelchairs to get through. \n\n\nWe hope to see you there! \nPlease note: \n\nTickets purchased are fully refundable until 48 hours before the event.\nChildren 3 and under are free to attend.\nThe event will take place rain or shine.
